pioneer of the musical style "mystic minimalism" or "sacred minimalism"; created Tintinnabuli, meaning "little bells", a style he has remained loyal to ever since 1976

Curious Facts:
after Estonia became a part of the Soviet Union, had very little freedom in his writing (many pieces were banned), so left in 1980; has lived in Berlin since 1981; since then his music has concentrated on religious texts
