Padilla was one of the most important Spanish-born composers of his time; influenced by Spanish attitudes, his sacred polyphony is in the style of the pirma prattica, showing such Baroque modifications as a slightly increased chromaticism, a preference for double choirs, exceptionally vital rhythms, and bass lines with strong instrumental characteristics.
