regarded as one of the most important English composers of his era

Notable Compositions:
most compositions date from the 1520s and include masses and motets, including Missa Gloria Tibi Trinitas, Western Wind Mass, Dum Transisset Sabbatum and several Magnificats

Assignments:
first Organist and Master of the Choristers at Christ Church, Oxford, appointed by Cardinal Thomas Wolsey; eventually moved to Boston, Lincolnshire, where he was a land owner and fairly well off, and appointed alderman shortly before his death

Curious Facts:
20th century composer John Tavener claimed to be a direct descendant of Taverner
