orchestral piece "Roman trilogy": Fountains of Rome (Le fontane di Roma); Pines of Rome (I pini di Roma); and Roman Festivals (Feste romane)

Notable Compositions:
The Roman Trilogy, La Fiamma, Toccata for piano and orchestra, Metamorphoseon

Assignments:
teacher of composition at the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia in Rome, and later became the director of the Conservatorio; elected to the Royal Academy of Italy

Curious Facts:
had a musicological interest in 16th-, 17th- and 18th-century music; on his trip back from Brazil, met Italian physicist Enrico Femi, with whom he was friends with until his death
