studied with William Byrd; received a Bachelor's from Oxford

Best Known For:
Being the most famous madrigal comoser in Elizabethan England; also wrote Plaine and Easie Introduction to Practicall Musicke, which was used by musicians for 200 years after his death

Notable Compositions:
Now is the Month of Maying, April is in my Mistress' Face

Assignments:
Master of Choristers at Norwich Cathedral; employed at St. Paul's Cathedral in London

Curious Facts:
Along with Robert Johnson, the only composers who wrote the only surviving contemporary settings of writings by Shakespeare
