Robert DeCormier
Born: b. 1922
Education/Training:
began playing trumpet at age 7; attended Colby College; after being wounded in Germany during World War II, attended Juilliard School where he studied voice and choral conducting with Peter Wilhousky and Robert Shaw

Best Known For:
work with spirituals and folk music

Assignments:
worked with Harry Belafonte for years; formed the Robert DeCormier Singers in 1963, who toured and recorded until 1987; became conductor of New York Choral Society in 1970; also taught music at a New York City high school where he taught Mary of Peter, Paul, and Mary (he later arranged music for the group); conductor of the Vermont Symphony Orchestra Chorus, and a professional group, Counterpoint, in Vermont

was great friends with Pete Seeger
