since 2003 has taught at the University of Aberdeen, where he is currently Professor of Composition; has had visiting professorships in Scandinavia and the United States; is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts

after signing with Decca in 2011, his first album A Tender Light spent 6 weeks at #1 on the classical charts
