Education/Training:
grew up improvising music before reading it; took composition lessons with Wolfgang Plagge in high school; later attended the Norwegian Academy of Music, Royal College of Music in London and the Juilliard School, where he received his Master's degree

Best Known For:
writing music for choir, orchestra/symphonic winds, and the piano; main passion as a pianist is improvisation, either solo or over his own ensemble works

Notable Compositions:
Sunrise Mass, The Ground; published by Walton Music, wind band works by Boosey & Hawkes and piano pieces by Edition Peters

Assignments:
is a full time composer in the US; currently composer-in-residence with Voces8; was the first composer-in-residence with the Phoenix Chorale
