Luc Kleiner

Bio:
Baritone vocalist and composer Luc Kleiner has shaped a pluralistic musical identity in Los Angeles, singing frequently with the Los Angeles Master Chorale, producing original artwork, and sustaining relationships with his teachers and students. Mr. Kleiner’s musicianship was fostered from an early age by his mother, a notable early childhood music educator and globally-renowned teacher trainer. Feeling called to pursue the voice, Mr. Kleiner studied with Tim MacDougall at California State University, Long Beach and found his repertorial milieu in the songs of Charles Ives.
In 2017, Mr. Kleiner earned an master of fine arts in performance and composition from California Institute of the Arts, where he studied traditional Ghanaian music, Javanese Gamelan, Indian classical music, and composition with Wolfgang von Schweinitz. Since then, Mr. Kleiner has toured internationally with Los Angeles Master Chorale performing Orlando di Lasso’s final work, Lagrime di San Pietro, heartrendingly staged by the inspirational Peter Sellars.
Mr. Kleiner was a featured soloist in Los Angeles Master Chorale’s world-premiere of Dreams of the New World by Ellen Reid, the West Coast premiere of Nico Muhly’s nativity cantata, The Faire Starre, the 2019 Charlotte Bach Festival’s St. Matthew Passion, and Oregon Bach Festival’s 2019 Cantata series. Heeding the social transformations brought about by the globally pervasive coronavirus, Mr. Kleiner has refocused on new music, tele-collaborations, gardening, and broadening relationships with friends, family, and nature.
