Bio:
ARCHIE DRAKE was born and reared in England. His early interest was the sea, and his training led him into navigation. He served as navigation officer in the British Merchant Navy for a number of years. In 1955, after becoming a resident of Vancouver, Canada, he began vocal training. Two years later, Mr. Drake. moved to Santa Barbara where he continued his musical career. He studied at the Music Academy of the West for more than three years, where he was coached in opera and lieder by Madame Lotte Lehmann and in vocal technique by William Eddy. In recent years, Mr. Drake has performed with many opera groups in Southern California, including the Los Angeles Opera Company and numerous university and music academy productions. He has appeared as bass soloist in many oratorios and with various symphony orchestras and choral groups conducted by Maurice Abravanel, Ernest Gold, Sandor Salgo, Erno Daniel, and Roger Wagner, among others. In July, 1964, he appeared as bass soloist at the Carmel Bach Festival. Mr. Drake joined the Roger Wagner Chorale in January, 1964, as bass soloist, and has made three tours with the company.
