Bio:
Paul Mayo, a native of California; is well known to Southland music circles through his many concert appearances, having appeared as soloist with the Pasadena, Glendale, and Burbank Symphonies. A graduate of the University of Southern California, he has been a featured performer with the Carmel Bach Festival for several seasons, playing Daniel in the West Coast premiere of the 12th century liturgical drama, The Play of Daniel, and most recently the archangel in The Play of Herod. In 1965 he appeared with the Ojai Music Festival in a concert of early music. Presently he holds the position of tenor soloist at the Pasadena Presbyterian Church. Mr. Mayo's virtuosity as a recitalist has been demonstrated through his interpretation of vocal literature ranging from medieval laude, German lieder, oratorio, opera, and songs in the tradition of Charles Ives. The performance of Handel oratorios is not a new experience for Mr. Mayo as he has carried major roles in Messiah, Saul, Israel in Egypt, and Judas Maccabaeus. As a member of the University of Southern California Chamber Singers and a featured soloist, Mr. Mayo was one of sixteen who made a four-month concert tour of Europe and Israel for the United States Department of State.
